The REN Waste system is very different from other existing solutions because it generates ethanol, electricity and potable water as well as many other minor products.
To do this it needs to separate the waste to a very high level of purity so that the appropriate conditions for alcohol production exist. Those conditions are achieved in the bio-chemical oxidation chambers where the daily volume of waste, mixed with about a million gallons or more of sewage sludge, is bio-degraded in a process that lasts seven days.
During this bio-degradation a tremendous amount of methane is generated and is immediately used to fuel the co-generation electric plant.
Our solution includes a Pyrolysis plant that pyrolyzes waste rubber, plastics and unfermentable organic matter left over from fermentation. Because these different materials produce different gases and other products, the plant can control and collect these products and schedule their production. This means the plant stores the gases that can be liquified (propane and biogas) and uses the methane to generate electricity. These stored liquefied gases can be held in reserve or sold as is.

Key features
  • Accepts wastes of all types and completely eliminates a municipality's solid waste and sewage sludge. (This does not include radioactive waste.)
  • Separates and efficiently sorts 98% of all classes and forms of waste
  • exceeds or meets US & EU Enviromental Agencies rules and regulations as regards emmission and pollution standards
  • Includes electricity, ethanol and potable water outputs
  • Offers total waste solution for large cities
  • Produces substantial and continual profit by its operation

 The process

The REN Waste process receives 100% of a community's solid waste and sewage sludge whether municipal, commercial, industrial or agricultural.

The waste is separated and segregated into its various component materials and then concentrated to a very high level of purity

  • These now pure and uniform materials are treated appropriately to produce valuable products and energy.
  • To achieve this, the process uses state-of-the-art recycling and resource - recovery technologies and creates sub-systems that use electro/mechanical, biochemical, optical/pneumatic, hydra/fermentation and high voltage technologies with a combined - cycle co-generation system.
  • The process is environmentally friendly.
  • It completely eliminates waste
  • It eliminates the need for garbage and sewage dump sites.
  • The physical plant can handle 1,500 to 20,000 metric tons of incoming solid waste and 1 to 5 million gallons of sewage sludge per day.
When fully implemented, the process eliminates 100% of the waste stream while recycling and recovering ethanol, electricity, distilled (or potable) water, as well as several other products.

Sludge Conversion
Typically, there are three stages to sewage treatment – primary, secondary and tertiary.
  • First, the solids are separated from the waste-water stream.
  • Then dissolved biological matter is progressively converted into a solid mass using indigenous, water-borne bacteria.
  • Finally, the biological solids are neutralized then disposed of or re-used, and the treated water may be disinfected chemically or physically.
  • The final effluent can be discharged into a stream, river, bay, lagoon or wetland, or it can be used for irrigating golf courses, green ways or parks. If it is sufficiently clean, it can also be used for groundwater recharge.
  • The remaining material is called sewage sludge and varies in suspended solid concentrations from 1.5 to 50%. This material is used as fertilizer in some countries where EPA standards are low or ineffective. In most advanced countries the use of sludge as a fertilizer is banned.
In most of the developed world, ocean dumping of sludge is illegal so the only solutions available to municipalities are incineration or heating and drying the sludge at high temperatures to rid it of pathogens and then pelletizing of the resulting "cake" and its disposal in landfills or as fertilizer. The system is expensive and runs as high as US$200 per ton.
REN Waste rejects this treatment of sludge because we look at sludge as a material that contains complex organic compounds that can be regenerated through technologically advanced systems into energy and products that will benefit society.
The REN Waste Sludge Conversion System (RSCS) accepts the sludge in any suspended solids concentration and, because it needs as much organic material as possible, RSCS accepts sludge at the primary stage of the treatment process and converts it 100% into ethanol and methane. The process eliminates the sludge without the need for secondary and tertiary treatments, and because it creates valuable energy and products, it is able to treat the sludge at a much lower cost to the municipality than was previously possible.

MORE POSSIBILITIES
If a client requires a smaller plant or different solution, here are some examples:
  • Manure to Ethanol plant that produces ethanol, CO2, yeast and distilled water.
  • Processing Chicken Waste into Protein meal and oil.
  • Tire Pyrolysis involves heating solid waste in a pyrolitic reactor in the absence of oxygen. Using reduction rather than oxidation (incineration), the material is reduced to its basic form and used for recycling scrap tires. The four by-products are: propane gas, carbon black, steel scrap and oil. Pyrolysis can also produce clean oil and gas from waste oil and methane from organic materials which can than be used as a fuel for co-generation plants.
There are hazardous dump sites all over the world where the ground is contaminated with chemical wastes or oil and grease or other materials that make living on it extremely unhealthy and possibly cancer causing.
We can set up either permanent or mobile Pyrolysis operations to cleanse these areas from its hazardous content to whatever depth is required and restore the area to its once pristine status.
  • We can also manufacture straight alcohol or beer from conventional (grain) sources.
  • Our waste reduction systems can be used to separate metals to a very high degree and sell the separated materials to smelters which yield aluminum, steel, brass, tin, cadmium, copper etc…
